Via Roma, 1, 64030 Montefino TE, Italy
La Cantina is a bar that can be found at the centre of Montefino. Owned by Sara, Octavio’s daughter, you can always expect a warm welcome when visiting the bar. It’s a hub of activity for the otherwise sleepy town and you can find many of the local men and women in there catching up with either a coffee or alcoholic beverage in hand.
They don’t offer much in the way of food, there is simple things like burgers and hot dogs on the menu though we have never seen them ordered. Sara will usually provide you with some snacks to have with any drinks you order so you won’t have to fear drinking on an empty stomach. The drinks on offer are typical for an Italian bar, you have wine, beer and spirits like Grappa, Aperol and Campari
What to order?
What you order will depend on your age and inclination, they have the typical offerings of beer, wine and spirits. If you are feeling adventurous or are just looking for a typical Italian drink then here are a few suggestions.
- Aperol Spritz
Aperol Spritz is now a drink known around the world as being the cocktail of choice of hipsters, but it’s much more humble beginnings can be traced back to the Italian love of bitter drinks. The cocktail is comprised of Aperol, Prosecco and Soda Water. It has a sweet and slightly bitter taste that is very refreshing in the heat.
Another drink that plays off the Italians love of bitterness. This is a much stronger drink than Aperol Spritz, made with Campari, Gin and Martini Rosso it is definitely more of a sipping drink.
You’ll see many men in the bar just drinking straight Grappa. Grappa has a similar burn to Whiskey but a slightly sweeter and fruity taste since it is made using grapes. It is similar to the French Eau De Vie.
